THE cousin of AFL star Paddy Ryder has been killed in a car accident in Perth’s south.

Anthony Brown, who played football for West Perth colts, died when his car left Jandakot Road in Treeby on Monday afternoon and slammed into a power pole.

Mr Brown’s family made an emotional visit to the crash scene on Tuesday and paid tribute to the late 33-year-old.

“He was in the happiest of spirits,” Mr Brown’s mother Charmaine Brown said.

Family say Mr Brown had just been released from hospital and was on his way to visit his uncle in Midland when he took a wrong turn.

Mr Brown’s car slid from the road near Coonadoo Court around 4.20pm and he died at the scene.

The 33-year-old’s family say they have been devastated by comments on social media claiming Mr Brown was on his phone at the time.

“To everyone out there talking about him on his phone, he wasn’t on his phone, he doesn’t even have a phone,” Mr Brown’s cousin Nikkeisha Cross-Brown said.

Major Crash investigators want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Brown’s silver Holden Statesman driving in the Jandakot area before the crash on Monday.

The 33-year-old’s emotional mother echoed the police plea.

“If there is anybody out there who saw the accident, could they please contact the police,” she said, fighting back tears.

Anyone with information on the crash should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
