HE STOLE our hearts as Ziggy in Big Little Lies, now he looks set to do it again as a young Sheldon Cooper in this Big Bang Theory spin-off.
Iain Armitage will star in Young Sheldon, based on Jim Parson’s eccentric character in The Big Bang Theory.
The show will follow the adventures of young child genius Sheldon Cooper at his Texas high school.
Sheldon’s mum, Mary Cooper, played by Laurie Metcalf in The Big Bang Theory, will be played be her real-life daughter, Zoe Perry, in Young Sheldon.
US network CBS has agreed for the fledgling show to screen after ratings juggernaut The Big Bang Theory each week.
“It’s not Muppet Babies,” said CBS programming executive Kelly Kahl, but a gentle comedy in the mould of The Wonder Years and Doogie Howser, M.D.”
Parsons and the rest of The Big Bang Theory cast are signed through the next two seasons
Armitage had a break out role in Big Little Lies where he played Ziggy, the son of Shailene Woodley’s character, who is wrongly accused of hitting one of his classmates.
Jim Parsons took the idea of Young Sheldon to Chuck Lorre, who is executive producer on The Big Bang Theory as well as past hits like Two and a Half Men.
Parsons won’t appear in the series but is understood to be involved.
