Brenden Bennetts has been found guilty of murdering schoolgirl Jayde Kendall, west of Brisbane, in August 2015.
Bennetts, 21, was charged with murder and interfering with a corpse after the 16-year-old’s remains were found on a rural property west of Brisbane almost two weeks after she went missing.
It took the jury less than a day to reach its verdict.
Bennetts is due to be sentenced in the Supreme Court in Brisbane this afternoon.
Jayde’s grandfather Denis Morrissey read a victim impact statement to the court.
He described Jayde as a “gorgeous and thoughtful young woman focused on a bright future”.
“To know we will never have these times again tears our heart out,” he said.
“She was a bright and driven young girl, destined for great things.
“We will never recover from this loss.”
More to come.
Bennetts had pleaded guilty to Jayde’s manslaughter, but not her murder. (ABC News: Milly Capel)
