Car fire wreaks havoc in peak hour

A CAR fire in East Perth caused peak-hour traffic chaos for those trying to get through the Northbridge tunnel.

According to Main Roads, the car caught fire after 5pm in the right lanes at the East Parade exit.

The vehicle was off the Graham Farmer Freeway on the East Parade on-ramp, with heavy traffic struggling to move past.

Fire crews, police and Main Roads staff were called to the scene, with traffic banked back to the Kwinana Freeway for those trying to head east.

Motorists have been asked to find an alternative route if possible.

Emergency crews are also at the scene of a four-car collision at the intersection of Joondalup Drive and Hodges Drive.

It remains unclear if there are any injuries in that collision.
