AN off-duty police officer has been bashed with a hammer in a home invasion in Girrawheen early on Thursday morning.
The attack occurred at 1.40am after a man aged in his 20s broke into a home on Mirrabooka Avenue, smashing through a rear door.
After escaping from the home with a set of car keys, he was confronted by the off-duty officer at the front of the house.
He attacked the woman with a hammer before fleeing in her white Holden Maloo ute.
The officer’s elderly father, who was also in the house, suffered chest pains after the attack and both were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where they are in a stable condition.
The ute is believed to have been sighted near a break-in in St Albans Road, Nollamara a short time later.
In that incident, a window was smashed and a person entered the house, but fled after being yelled at by the occupants.
A Holden Maloo ute was seen driving in the area with its headlights off.
