SOME brilliant spring weather at the weekend has brought out the playful side of two whales as they moved down the WA coast.
Cherie Mckay was thrilled when a pair of humpback whales joined her and her father for a play around their boat in waters off Rottnest Island.
The inquisitive pair turned up at about midday on Saturday and hung around for about 45 minutes.
“We just loved it, we found it amazing and so incredible,” Ms Mckay said.
Whales have been active around the Perth coast in recent weeks, as they head to southern waters.
Last month, a stand-up paddleboarder had a close encounter with a pair of curious southern right whales just 200m off the coast near North Beach.
The whales attracted a big crowd of passers-by and office workers.
