Hemsworth rewards fans at Thor premiere

HE might be Hollywood royalty but he’s just a beach bum at heart.

Superstar actor Chris Hemsworth flew into the Gold Coast on Friday for the premiere of his new movie Thor: Ragnarok.

But before he hit the red carpet he hit the sand, going for a swim at Broadbeach.

On Friday night he made a big splash with hordes of fans who had waited patiently at the Event Cinemas Robina for a glimpse of the star.

The atmosphere at the Gold Coast venue was electric as Hemsworth dedicated plenty of time for selfies and signatures for those who had hoped for even a quick glimpse of Thor himself.

Hemsworth said that being able to attend the Queensland screening was important to him.

“This is one of the best experiences I’ve had on a set and to catch up with them (the local cast and crew) and have them see all their hard work is very special,” he said.

Hemsworth also revealed he was advocating for more of his future projects to be filmed Down Under.

“I would love to shoot everything here,” he said. “Anything I read or anything that comes my way, I’m trying to bring back here.”

It was a star-studded affair with three of Queensland’s former Miss World Australia contenders — Erin Holland, Courtney Thorpe and Tess Alexander — and fellow models Nicole Trunfio, Chloe Maxwell turning up for the movie screening.

The Voice 2016 grand finalist Ellen Reed, Neighbours actor Blair McDonough, The Block’s Shelley Craft, The Bachelor ladies Tara Pavlovic and Cobie Frost and Gold Coast fitness queen Emily Skye were also among the big names to make an appearance on the red carpet.

Despite a worldwide embargo on reviews of Thor: Ragnarok until October 20, early hype from US critics who attended the world premiere in Los Angeles this week heaped praise on the film, many pointing to its humour and the cast performances as highlights.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn shared his thoughts on the movie on social media, posting that it had “captured the batsh*t crazy fun of ’80s”.

“It’s the most colourful of all Marvel films — I mean, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is practically sepia-tone in comparison — and it’s also the funniest,” he wrote in the glowing review on Facebook.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in cinemas nationally on October 26.
