Kidman is red hot, once again

RIDING the crest of a wave that begun with her Oscar-nominated performance in Lion and continued with the actor-producer’s phenomenally-successful HBO series Big Little Lies, Nicole Kidman will appear in four separate titles at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Two of the films — Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled and Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer — will be in competition for the top prize, the prestigious Palme d’Or.

Kidman stars opposite Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Colin Farrell in Coppola’s account of the social and sexual upheaval that occurs when a wounded soldier is taken into a sheltered girl’s school during the American Civil War.

She also appears with Farrell (as his wife) in the hotly-anticipated follow-up to Lanthimos’s highly acclaimed 2015 film The Lobster.

The 49-year-old actress is reunited with Rabbit Hole director John Cameron Mitchell for the sci-fi comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties, which also stars Fanning.

And she collaborates with director Jane Campion on Top of the Take: China Girl for the first time since The Portait of a Lady.

The sequel to the award-winning 2013 mystery drama will screen in the 70th Amniversary Events program along with David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.

Both Lynch and Campion are festival regulars and Palme D’Or winners. Campion remains the only woman to have won the coveted award.
