A WOMAN has died in a fatal collision on a major highway north west of Melbourne.
Police believe the female was travelling along the Western Freeway near Bacchus Marsh around 11pm on Saturday when her Holden Astra veered onto the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle collided head-on with a 4WD and the woman died at the scene. The driver of the 4WD is in a serious but stable condition with his three passengers, a young boy and girl and a man in his 20s, not injured.
Police are investigating and are yet to determine the exact cause of the crash.
CFA and SES crews were called to and attended the scene.
